Episode 1: Transfering FIRSTedu-ADLX in Tanzania by Hamisi Togwa

My name is Hamisi Ally Togwa and nicknamed “HAJIT”.I am a Tanzanian facilitator of ROOTS PROGRAM (Roadmap of Outstanding Educators) conducted by SeGa Group in cooperation with NAMA Foundation in Malaysia. Currently, I am the Headmaster of Ihsan Secondary School-Tanzania. Before March 2021, I was the Education Coordinator of the Direct Aid Society in Tanzania.

I am supervising more than ten schools for primary and secondary levels. One of my responsibilities is to facilitate capacity-building programs for my teaching staff. Following this from July 2020 up to March 2021, I have a schedule of training for my teaching staff about FIRSTedu-ADLX based on the syllabus given out by SeGa Group. The program is four days in each school.

In this map below, you will find all the cities that I was working to implement this program across Tanzania:

In this episode, I will present my experience at the beginning of my learning facilitation in these different schools.
I started my program at ALFAROUQ CENTRE which consists of two schools namely Alfarouq English Medium, Primary School, and Alfarouq Boys Islamic Seminary. Those schools are located in Dar es salaam city. Those two schools have got a total number of 670 students among them 445 pupils for primary and 225 for secondary.
During the training, the total number of teaching staff attended is 40 in which among them 25 are from primary and 15 from secondary.

This video shows that the training session is going on at Alfarouq center and the participant was doing Micro facilitation on how to apply the three principles of the Focusing Domain of FIRSTedu-ADLX Framework:

Individualization

Probing & Assessing

 Trust the learner

The facilitator is presenting the group design about the parallel learning outcomes. Also, The participant is presenting on behalf of his group on what have they designed about the parallel learning outcomes.

This type of activity is known as energizer by a volunteer. The energizer can be done in different ways and for various purposes. It can be an Educational opener game. Normally energizers retrieve the energy level of the learner. When an energizer is reviewed the learning outcomes can be attained.

At the end of the session and after micro-facilitation, I asked them to start reflecting on what happened during the session. They started self-reflection and feedback on what they have learned during the learning session. Then, They shared their journaling session whereby the participant voluntarily shares with his/her fellow about his/her self assessment about the program before, during, and after the program.

And In this part, my journey at ALFAROUQ CENTRE has ended and this is the end of episode 1 of my case study. Please Wait for the other episodes.

.The training is highly needed in many schools in Tanzania. Its time now for NAMA to expand their scope to even government schools.
What I have noted is that many teachers are in old era of transmitting knowledge to the learners.Hence learning becomes as a punishment to all students and the teachers.Through ROOT program we see learning is joyfully .Its no longer boaring the learners. The learners are motivated to learn.
